Floss: because man has a relationship with light

Floss: flower or brilliant idea

The Italian designer Achille Castiglioni and his two brothers Livio and Pier had already started designing and manufacturing design furniture in 1944. In 1960 they thought it was time for something different. 1960 was the start of Flos lighting. The idea behind the start was to make beautiful objects, starting with a light bulb. With the same passion with which they designed furniture, they created iconic lamps such as the Taraxacum or the Fantasma lamp. These became world famous.

Top designers for top creations at Flos

We let the top designers of Flos talk for a moment: for example Jules Gim, Akari Lisa Ishii or the duo of Dot Dash. They all approach the space before starting a design. Lighting should not be inconspicuous, but should be physically clearly present. The Italian designer Piero Lissoni even calls the light a special scratch in a shadow. Jan van Lierde and Paul Traynor look at it from the human point of view and speak of light as respect for the needs of man and man who, thanks to light, transforms space. These are scratchy statements that result from a philosophy that you, as a buyer of Flos lighting, probably do not immediately think about.

1962: Ready for the Arco floor lamp of Flos

Actually, the creation of the Arco floor lamp Flos is a logical continuation of the philosophy of Flos: starting from the incandescent lamp in order to achieve a beautiful piece of design. This lamp can easily be called an icon or even better an icon. It is not surprising that it has already been copied many times. This lamp combines the beauty of white Carrara marble with stainless steel. The angular shape of the base forms a nice contrast with the spherical lamp. The arm is telescopic and has a satin finish. It was designed in 1962 but is now more contemporary than ever. Timeless, classy and strongly present in the room: this is how one can describe this Arco floor lamp Flos.

A lamp for every place on earth

Floss is going to conquer the world. That's why they create lamps for every style and every home right from the start. The elegant and stylish Italian design will never be away from the Flos lamps. Yet Flos lamps find their place in both modern and more traditional homes, business premises, public buildings, museums, etc.. With a lamp from Flos you can unpack, show, choose your own style and relate to the light.
